Adventures in Motorcycling

It’s been awhile since Mexico, but I have often been thinking about writing about my experiences on my motorcycle so I will.

I have been riding for about 3 years, but have had my current motorcycle (V-Star 650) for 2 years (and 16,000 miles).  I have had many adventures while riding, some relaxing and enjoyable and some stressful, but always eventful. When I am riding to work, to school or just for fun, I get motivated to share some of my experiences  with others, but I haven’t done it. I have a feeling that sometimes I will just pop in to share something frustrating or weird that happened while riding, but I will try to share all experiences. So here goes…

First of all, for those of you that haven’t ridden a motorcycle, it is an amazing experience of being both invigorating and relaxing at the same time.  You have to be very aware of what is going on around you for  your safety, which can be tiring, but in doing so you also become more aware of all the sights, sounds, smells and sensations of the world around you. Yes, it is often frustrating when other drivers don’t “see you,” and that the rules and rights of all drivers seem to not be applied to you (by other drivers), but as soon as I ride through a blossoming orange orchard (or anything else equally fragrant or beautiful), all of that frustration is forgotten.

My intent in writing this is to share my experiences in riding a motorcycle and often it is the frustrating experiences that I want to share, especially in the moment, but if I was truly affected by the struggles, I would not continue to ride, even with the great gas mileage. I am a very inpatient driver in my truck and riding my bike has helped me become less stressed and more patient because my safety depends on it.  I also find that I am so much more relaxed even after I get to my destination (work, school), than when I drive.

Thank you for listening.
